As a member of the public, you have a right to access City records. Access to official records is part of being an accountable and transparent government.

The ATIPP Act

The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 is legislated by the provincial government. It is designed to create a culture of openness and accountability in the public sector while protecting a citizen's personal information and a business's commercially sensitive information. It applies to all public bodies including municipalities.

The ATIPP Act has three purposes:

• To ensure citizens have the information required to participate in the democratic process.
• To increase transparency in government and public bodies so that elected officials, officers, and employees of public bodies remain accountable.
• To protect the privacy of an individual's personal information that is held and used by public bodies.
