On Thursday, June 27, 2024, municipalities were advised that the provincial fire ban would remain in place until July 31. Based on this information, the City of St. John’s made the difficult decision to cancel the fireworks planned for July 1.

Contractors may be working on the following streets from July 2 to 6 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas:
Albany Street
Allandale Road (near end)
Brier Avenue
Calver Avenue
Canada Drive
Captain Whelan Drive (intersection with Columbus Drive)

A Discretionary Use application has been submitted by Magic Storm Events for 22 O’Leary Avenue.
DescriptionThe Discretionary Use application is for a Restaurant (Café) and Retail space for pop-up markets for local artisan sales, which is supplementary to the music and art lessons (permitted use) offered at this location. The floor area is 1003m2 and hours of operation will be Tuesday to Sunday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and on-site parking is available.

Motorists are advised that a portion of Main Road, near Viguers Road intersection, will have a temporary lane reduction in place. Temporary traffic signals and signage will be in place at the lane reduction. Flag persons will be on site during working hours. This lane reduction and detour is necessary to facilitate installation of storm sewer piping in this area. Motorists may encounter some delays.

Please be advised that the City of St. John’s live music and fireworks event planned for 8 to 10 p.m. on July 1 is cancelled due to the provincial fire ban which will remain in place across Newfoundland and Labrador until further notice. The use of personal/backyard fireworks is also strictly prohibited.
