Community gardens are a valuable part of our neighbourhoods, helping residents grow and access fresh, healthy, and affordable food. These gardens contribute to the overall well-being of residents by providing better nutrition, but also by bringing people together, creating stronger, more connected communities. Supporting and promoting community gardening is a key initiative within the City of St. John’s Healthy City Strategy, as we work together to build a healthier and more inclusive city for everyone.
Community gardens provide residents with meaningful opportunities to connect with their neighbours and others in the area. These shared spaces bring together people from different backgrounds, helping to build a stronger, more connected community. Benefits of these spaces include:
Located at 35 Carrick Drive, the Paul Reynolds Community Garden welcomes both individuals and groups with an interest in gardening. The garden features fruit trees, raised beds, a shared Community Bed, and wheelchair-accessible planting areas.
The Victoria Park Community Garden, located at 34 Sudbury Street, is open to individuals and groups who enjoy gardening. Situated on the east side of the park near the playground, the garden features raised wooden beds for community use
Coming Soon! The new H.G.R. Mews Community Centre on Blackler Avenue will include an accessible community garden. Stay tuned for more details as construction is completed.
