Public EV Charging Stations

The City of St. John’s has installed Level 2 Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations for public use at these locations:

• City Hall Parking Garage, Level 1, 10 New Gower Street
• St. John's Community Market, 245 Freshwater Road
• Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive
• Southlands Community Centre, 40 Teakwood Drive
• Downtown, 172 Duckworth Street
• Churchill Square, 8 Rowan Street

How to use the EV Chargers

1. Plug-in the charger nozzle to your vehicle. Your vehicle may make a sound, show a light, or show something on its dashboard display that confirms it is being charged.
2. Identify the PaybyPhone Zone Sign in the area; this will indicate the Zone number required for payment via the Pay-By-Phone application (available on iPhones and Androids in their App Stores), paybyphone.com, or by calling the toll-free number at 1-866-234-7275. A credit card is required for payment.

If for some reason the charger is not working, please report it to the Access Centre and proceed to another parking spot.

The City of St. John’s assumes no liability for damages or injury from the EV Charging Stations.

Fees

A nominal hourly fee of $1.50 will be charged for EV Charger use. The Charger fee will be applied in addition to parking fees (where applicable). This is automatically applied through PaybyPhone. These EV Charger fees help the City support the program and they will be reviewed annually to ensure maintenance and charging costs are covered.

Enforcement

EV Charging Stations are reserved for EVs to park while being physically connected to the chargers, up to a maximum of 3 hours. Any vehicle parked in an EV Charging Space that is not physically connected to the charger will be in violation of the City’s Ticketing Amendment By-Law. Any vehicle that is parked in an EV Charging Space which has not paid for parking and electricity will be in violation of the City’s Paid Parking Regulations. Violations of City bylaws will be enforced accordingly.
