Chicanes

A chicane is a series of curb extensions on alternating sides of a roadway. A chicane narrows the roadway forcing people driving to steer from one side of the roadway to the other to travel through the chicane.

One-lane chicanes are only used on local roads experiencing high volumes. The goal is to use approximately equal directional splits or the associated reduction in traffic volumes would be minor.
