To recognize World Refugee Day, the City of St. John’s is proud to open a photography exhibit featuring the work of students in the Association for New Canadians (ANC) Language School. The exhibit entitled ‘A Day in the Life of a Newcomer to Canada’ features images of newcomers and iconic St. John’s landmarks.
“The City of St. John’s is committed to developing a welcoming community and fostering an inclusive environment for all,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “This photo exhibit is meaningful to the participants, all of whom have come here seeking peace and a new home.
“We are very pleased to partner with the Association for New Canadians on this powerful exhibition.”
In addition to the exhibit, the City of St. John’s will also proclaim June 20, 2023 as World Refugee Day in the City of St. John’s.
"For more than 40 years, the Association for New Canadians has been welcoming refugees and other newcomers to Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Megan Morris, Executive Director, Association for New Canadians. “We value our partnership with the City of St. John's and are honoured to join Mayor Breen in proclaiming World Refugee Day.”
The exhibit is on display in the Wyatt Hall until June 30 and available for public viewing weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
