Update: Registration for the Radon Testing Kits is now full, including the waitlist. Those registered on the waitlist will be contacted if a kit becomes available.
The City of St. John’s is taking part in Health Canada’s Take Action on Radon Program. Radon is a naturally occurring gas that enters homes through contact with the ground. When radon builds up to elevated levels, exposure can increase the risk of developing lung cancer. The only way to determine radon levels is through testing.
There are 500 free radon test kits available for St. John’s residents as part of the Take Action on Radon Program, 100 per ward. To request a kit, residents must register online. Kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To check which ward you live in, use our Ward Look Up. ID with proof of residency will be required.
Participants will be notified to pick up their testing kit starting Monday, December 9 and ongoing until Friday, December 13 at the following locations for each ward:
Registered participants will be sent an invitation to attend a free radon information session on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The session will cover the health effects of radon, why it’s a concern, and Health Canada recommendations.
