On Tuesday, Oct. 18 the City’s Youth Engagement Working Group (YEWG) is a hosting a forum on youth-oriented municipal topics. The forum provides an opportunity for youth to network with each other and members of Council and learn more about the youth engagement efforts taking place at the City.
“The Youth Engagement Working Group is excited to chat with other youth in the city at our in-person event,” says Maria Penney, co-chair of the YEWG. “The opportunity to provide feedback to the City and directly impact decisions on topics that are relevant to us as a group is wonderful!”
Following this in-person session, the Youth Engagement Working Group will host two virtual brainstorming sessions in November and January. Participants can register for all sessions or any combination of the three planned events.
The forum is one of the actions the City is taking to better engage youth in civic matters thereby providing them with input into decisions that affect them, today and into the future.
“Youth play an important role in the current and future economic prosperity of St. John’s,” said Councillor Jill Bruce, Council lead on youth. “Their perspectives are being considered in our decision-making and we want to ensure we are offering them equal opportunity to have a say in our community.”
Aside from the upcoming forum and virtual brainstorm sessions, young people can also register for the Youth Panel, an online space where young people aged 18 to 30 can provide feedback to the City on topics of interest to them via quick and easy to complete surveys. Panel results on a variety of topics are posted at engagestjohns.ca/youth-engagement-panel.
Snacks and prizes will also be available.
