With winter weather upon us, be sure to keep informed about when and where you can park. There are multiple winter parking restrictions in St. John’s. You can learn about them on our website, or sign up for notifications.
The 24-Hour Parking Restriction is declared when required, based on the weather forecast and current conditions. If you park on a street that is outside of the designated downtown area, you will need to move your vehicle from the street when this parking restriction is announced.
Once announced, the restriction will be in place for 24-hours a day, until it is lifted.
Based on feedback from the public, we have added back the ‘24-Hour Parking Restriction’ e-update option on our website. Sign up to receive emails when the parking ban is announced, and again when it is lifted, by subscribing to the ‘24-Hour Parking Restriction’.
If you park your vehicle on a street inside the designated downtown area, you will need to move it when snow removal is scheduled on your street.
If your street is scheduled for snow removal, signs will be placed in snowbanks that day to indicate that overnight parking is prohibited from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
To find out if your street is scheduled for overnight removal, you can subscribe to our downtown snow removal email list.
During winter, waste collection in your area could be postponed due to high winds or snow. You can sign up for reminders and alerts via email, phone call, or text at CurbitStJohns.ca; under 'schedules' enter your address. Waste bags and bins are never to be placed on the sidewalk and must not be placed at the curb until the day of collection between 6 and 8 a.m.; do not put waste bags or bins out the night before or on sidewalks as it impedes snow operations.
