Waste Collection Schedule and Christmas Tree Drop Off

Due to the holiday schedule, garbage and recycling will not be collected on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022.

With the exception of Monday, Dec 26, the collection schedule from December 27 to January 6 is the same as usual. This means we’ll collect from both Areas 1 and 2 on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Your 2023 waste collection schedule was mailed to you in the City Guide (pages 12 to 13). You can also view the Winter City Guide online or you can learn your collection schedule at CurbitStJohns.ca and then download, print, and set up reminders.

Search by address at CurbitStJohns.ca to view your waste collection calendar and see what’s being picked up on your next collection day.

1. Search for your address.
2. Select the ‘Get a Calendar’ button.
3. Choose ‘Print a Calendar’.
4. You can also choose to add your schedule to your calendar applications such Google Calendar, iCal, or Microsoft Outlook.

Christmas Tree Drop Off

Give your real tree new life. We mulch real Christmas trees and use it for landscaping in open spaces. Only natural, undecorated trees are acceptable – no artificial trees, decorations, tinsel, or other man-made objects. Do not bundle or tie the tree.

  • From Wednesday, Dec. 28 until Sunday, Jan. 8 (Excluding Dec 31 and Jan 1)

  • Open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. except statutory holidays.

Christmas Tree Chipping

Ever wonder what happens to your real Christmas tree after you bring it to our drop off sites? Chips acquired from the processing of Christmas trees are used as mulch on shrub beds throughout locations around the City. Most are used in Bowring Park, Bannerman Park, Mundy Pond Park and the City Depot.

The amount of chips collected from Christmas trees accounts for approximately 40% of what is required. Another 20% are acquired from fallen trees, pruning material, and brush, with the remaining 40% purchased locally.
