The City of St. John’s requires all Aquatic Fitness Instructors to have a certification from a recognized organization or successful completion in the City’s own workshop. Participants learn the basics of music, movement and safety to then apply to become an Aquatic Fitness Instructor.
All sessions are mandatory and open to participants 16 years of age or older and take place in the pool and classroom at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre (PRCC).
Cost: $100 including taxes and all required materials.
Register online or in person at PRCC or the H.G.R. Mews Community Centre.
You do not need to be a swimmer but should be comfortable around the water. Lifeguards are always present. To successfully complete the workshop, bring lots of energy, an excellent attitude and a desire to become an instructor.
Sessions:
Friday, September 15, 6 to 10 p.m.
Saturday, September 16 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, September 17, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wear comfortable clothing for the classroom sessions and swimming attire for the pool sessions. PRCC has change facilities that include showers and lockers. Please bring paper, pen or pencil and a water bottle (not glass). We will provide some light snacks throughout the sessions and will break for lunch for the full days (not provided).
After the workshop, participants will complete practice teaching sessions until comfortable teaching an entire aquatic fitness class. The workshop completion certificate is issued once a full class has been successfully taught and signed off by a supervising instructor.
Once you receive your workshop completion certificate, the City of St. John’s invites you to apply on any future Fitness Instructor job postings at StJohns.ca/CareersContact Us
