Today, City Council voted in favour of moving forward with design and construction of a shared-use path on the south side of Canada Drive. The design for the project will be tendered in early 2023, with construction to be announced later, once funding is in place.
Public engagement for this project took place in spring 2022 where two options were proposed, and input was gathered from the public and community stakeholders.
The evaluation included review of sightlines along the corridor and winter maintenance. What was heard through public engagement was discussed with the City's Sustainable and Active Mobility Advisory Committee as well.
Review the project details including the ‘What We Heard’ document at EngageStJohns.ca. The decision note for the shared-use path is available in the City Council agenda.
The City of St. John’s is committed to building a balanced transportation network to get people and goods where they want to go safely. This project is identified in the City’s Strategic Plan under the goal to expand and maintain a safe and accessible active transportation network.
