The City has received feedback from the local business community and the public, indicating that the maximum parking time limit of two hours is insufficient when visiting the downtown core. In response, maximum parking time limits will increase to three and four hours in multiple on-street parking areas, effective June 19, 2023.
For all city-maintained parking areas, you have the option to pay using a pay station or PayByPhone. You don’t need to use your phone to pay for parking, as our pay stations accept credit cards, debit (tap only) and mobile tap. For more information about our on-street paid parking program, visit stjohns.ca/paidparking.
Paid parking is an important component of a sustainable and fiscally responsible City and helps ensure turnover and parking availability for businesses operating in these areas. Without it, there is low parking turnover and limited parking availability for customers.
Long-term parking needs are best met through private parking garages and lots that are located throughout the downtown. It is important to note the restrictions of these lots, as they differ from those of the City.
