The City has completed rolling out pay stations and the PayByPhone parking application to the downtown core, and other areas in the City such as Churchill Square; Westerland Road, Ricketts Road; Freshwater Road; Harvey Road; Cookstown Road; and Long’s Hill.
The paid parking program helps to ensure turnover for businesses and services in these areas and is part of a sustainable and effective on-street parking program.
Please look for signage when parking, which will note any parking restrictions in the area.
You do not need to use a phone to pay for your parking. Our pay stations are available in all paid parking areas. The pay stations accept debit (tap only), and credit cards. If you wish to use your phone, mobile pay (via tap) is also an option at the pay stations.
Please ensure that you have selected the correct payment method in the first step on the Pay Station. If paying by your cards tap function (available credit, debit, or mobile payment) you must select this at the first step. If you wish to insert your card (credit only), this must also be selected at the first step of the process. You cannot insert your debit card for payment.
The City of St. John's has discontinued cash options for on-street parking due to increased vandalism, theft, and destruction of city property.
If the application has been left open and running in the background of your phone, it may time out. Close the application window completely on your device, and re-open the app.
All public parking areas have maximum durations for parking. The time limit for parking is listed on signage in the area. Once the maximum time is reached, the system will not be able to take additional payment. You can move your vehicle to another parking zone and pay for parking there if you require additional parking. The zone number will be listed on a sign in the area.
Yes, all the parking zones and associated numbers are listed on our website. The zone in a parking area is also listed on the parking signage and Pay Station. If paying via PayByPhone, the locations are also found on a map in the app.
Additional information on how to use the pay stations and the PayByPhone app can be found on our Parking page.
