The City’s very own David Day was recently awarded the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Canada Merit Award.
IAEM is a not-for-profit organization committed to educating members and promoting Emergency Management Principles to professionals in the field. The IAEM Canada Council is comprised of all provinces and territories and is one of three Councils worldwide.
Awarded annually to an individual or organization, the IAEM Canada Merit Award is presented to a Canadian industry professional who has contributed significantly to the Emergency Management field in recent years. At the IAEM Canada Annual General Meeting on June 9, 2023, David was announced as one of two recipients of the 2023 Mert Award.
David has held the position of Manager of Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department for over 11 years. Recognized for the development of the Regional Emergency Management Group, David was instrumental in bringing together an Emergency Management community that shares knowledge, skillset, and expertise. He has demonstrated strong leadership and collaboration skills throughout his Emergency Management Career and contributes to both the local and national communities. He has been a volunteer with the local Ground Search and Rescue organization for over 30 years, has recently been appointed the local board of directors for St. John Ambulance, has served as secretary for the IAEM Atlantic Canada Council and has recently taken on a 3-year commitment to represent IAEM Canada Council on the IAEM Certification Commission.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department hosted a formal presentation ceremony for David on Tuesday, August 15 at the Central Fire Station.
