The City is considering a text and map amendment to the Envision St. John’s Development Regulations regarding wetlands. In response to City Council adopting the Wetlands Study Phase 2A on November 28, 2023, changes to Section 4.10 Waterways, Wetlands, Ponds or Lakes and Appendix C, Map 4 of the St. John’s Development Regulations are proposed.
Wetlands that have a Wetlands Ecosystem Services Protocol for Atlantic Canada (WESP – AC) score of 6 or higher are protected. Lundrigan’s Marsh and the wetlands that scored 6 or higher in the Wetlands Study Phase 2A are shown in red on the revised Map 4 as protected. Wetlands that obtained a score less than 6 in the Wetland Study Phase 2A are shown as unprotected on Map 4. Wetlands that still require field assessment and a score based on the WESP-AC are titled “Wetlands - Further Study Required” on Map 4.
You can learn more about this amendment on the Planning St. John’s webpage. The Planning St. John's webpage allows the public to learn more about planning applications, track progress, give feedback and ask questions all in one place.
