It's leaf season, and we're continuing to collect paper yard waste bags until December 2.
Did you know that the yard waste we collect is composted and used in public landscaping projects? Just place the paper yard waste bags at the curb and they will be collected biweekly on the same day as your recycling day. Check our scheduler to see when your recycling day is coming.
You can also bring your paper yard waste bags to the Robin Hood Bay Drop-Off any time, year round.
There is no limit to the number of paper yard waste bags that can be set out for collection at the curb. Yard waste bags must be under 50 lbs and will be collected separately from your garbage and recycling. Tied bundles of twigs and branches will also be taken as long as they are no larger than 60 cm x 60 cm x 30 cm with a branch diameter of 2.5 cm or less (2 ft x 2 ft x 1 ft with a branch diameter of 1 in or less).
Mulching and composting leaves and grass clippings is an earth-friendly way to take care of your yard waste in your own backyard. By mulching and composting you and your yard benefit from the nutrients provided by decomposing leaves and grass.
You can also dig leaves directly into your garden or put leaf mulch on gardens, flower beds and around your trees and shrubs. Leaves make excellent mulch, as demonstrated in this video.
