The City of St. John’s has been reverified as a High Five© accredited organization – the only municipality east of Ontario to achieve this certification. High Five© is Canada’s only nationally recognized quality assurance framework for excellence in recreation programming.
“We are very proud of our Recreation team for their unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Mayor Danny Breen at a special ceremony held at Paul Reynolds Community Centre, Tuesday. “Our staff and managers are High Five© leaders, ensuring that children participating in our programs get the best quality experience; and we play a major role in promoting the High Five© philosophy and methodology across the province.”
Since 2004 the City’s Recreation Division along with community partner Recreation NL have trained thousands of recreation leaders in the province in the High Five© principles of healthy development: play, mastery, friends, participation and a caring leader.
“As the High Five© Authorized Provider for Newfoundland and Labrador, Recreation NL is very pleased and excited for the City of St. John’s,” said Steve Martin, President, Recreation NL. “The City has been committed to upholding the High Five© standard for many years and has been leading the way for other organizations. We are delighted to be their partners in helping them achieve this re-accreditation.”
The City first achieved accreditation status in 2019. Reverification is typically sought every three years, but the process was delayed until 2023 by the pandemic.
“On behalf of High Five© National and the entire team, I would like to extend our warmest congratulations on your recent reverification for High Five© Accreditation,” said Maggie Henderson, Director of Quality Assurance.
“Your ability to consistently thrive in areas of innovation not only sets you apart from others but also fosters an environment that encourages creativity and growth. We are excited to see how your pioneering spirit will continue to shape the landscape of our industry.”
