The City of St. John’s is proud to recognize and celebrate National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) from May 26 to June 1, 2024.
This year’s theme is “Forward Together: Accessibility and Inclusion for All,” recognizing the collective efforts being made to build an accessible community, across Canada and right here in the City.
The City of St. John’s is committed to an accessible, inclusive, healthy and safe community for everyone. We strive to meet the diverse needs of our community by identifying, preventing and removing barriers so that all people can equitably live, work, play and learn here. Our Inclusion Advisory Committee supports Council and staff to identify and break down barriers that prevent residents and visitors living with disabilities from enjoying what our city has to offer. Their contributions are invaluable.
This week, we encourage residents to learn more about how the City is promoting accessibility and inclusion. From our 2024-2026 Accessibility Plan to inclusive and accessible recreation opportunities, we will be sharing information on our social channels throughout the week about the work being done to create a more accessible City.
On Wednesday, May 29 we also encourage residents to take part in Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion, an Easter Seals initiative which was first celebrated in 2019. It takes place on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week each year. City Hall will also be lit in red in recognition of Red Shirt Day.
