National Youth Week is dedicated to honoring and appreciating the skills, enthusiasm and accomplishments of our community's young individuals. We're celebrating youth with free events and activities.
Proclamation
The City's 2024 junior and senior Youth of the Year will attend the regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 30 as the Mayor officially proclaims National Youth Week in the City of St. John’s.
This year’s Junior Youth of the Year is Alexis MacDonald, a student at École Rocher-du-Nord who is actively involved in many different organizations including the “About Face” Youth Advisory which is a National Organization focused on helping those with facial differences. The Senior Youth of the Year is Sheza Chowdhury, a student at Gonzaga High School, who is involved in various clubs and teams and is always seeking out opportunities to help others.
Art Exhibit
Our annual Youth Art Exhibit opens to the public on Wednesday, May 1 at the Wyatt (Great) Hall, City Hall. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. with light refreshments and youth entertainment. All are welcome to attend. The art will be on display May 1 to 7 on weekdays during regular business hours.
Carnival
Junior and senior high-aged youth are invited to the Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive, for a free Youth Carnival on Tuesday, May 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will be giant-sized games, prizes and much more!
Free Swims
Youth are invited to swim for free at the following swims:
• Paul Reynolds Community Centre, Wednesday, May 1, from 7 to 7:50 p.m.
• H.G.R Mews Community Centre, Friday May 3 from 7 to 7:50 p.m.
Please note that registration for these swims is not required, but space is limited.
