For over 20 years, the City of St. John’s has been hosting concerts in City parks during the summer season. Today, Mayor Danny Breen, members of Council and guests announced the line-up for 2023 at an event in the City’s Visitor Information Centre on Water Street.
“This year promises to be one of our best seasons for the Music @ Concert Series, with 16 concerts in three venues,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “Our weekly Music @ Harbourside concerts have become a staple of summer and the perfect extension of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall.”
The season launches with Music @ Bowring Park, 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10. Another Bowring Park concert is scheduled for Saturday, August 26 at 2 p.m. This season, two concerts are also scheduled for Bannerman Park on Saturday, July 15 and Saturday, September 16. Harbourside Park weekly concerts, 12:30 p.m. on Fridays, begin July 7 with the last concert scheduled for Friday, September 22.
All concerts are free to attend.
Each concert opens with a youth performer coordinated through a partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society.
“The annual Music @ Concert Series is one of the highlights of our programming season and provides an excellent showcase opportunity for our fantastic young artists!” said John Clarke, Events Coordinator for the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Sherry Ryan, who performed at the launch, will be appearing at Harbourside Park on Friday, September 8: “As a performer, it’s such a pleasure to play at the Harbourside Park concerts. With the beautiful backdrop, the concerts feel so warm and inviting with children dancing and so many new and familiar faces enjoying the show.”
