St. John’s Sports & Entertainment Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of St. John’s responsible for the operations of the Mary Brown’s Centre and the St. John’s Convention Centre.
The City of St. John’s is accepting applications from individuals who wish to apply for a position on the St. John’s Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (SJSEL) Board of Directors. The City of St. John’s will fill one vacancy for one, three year term.

SJSEL Board of Directors Responsibilities
- Set the direction for the corporation: perform strategic thinking and planning, promote a positive public image, approve operational and annual plans.
- Ensure appropriate use of corporation resources: hire capable executive leadership, provide fiduciary responsibility.
- Provide oversight of the corporation: oversee financial management, minimize exposure to risk, monitor programs and services, and evaluate the CEO.

Previous Board experience and a background in accounting, finance and/or business analysis would be considered strong assets.

- accept accountability for group decisions so that the board of directors speaks with “one voice”
