The Office of the City Clerk is accepting applications for three volunteers for the Environmental and Sustainability Experts Panel membership. This Panel provides City Council with expertise, opinion, and perspective about environmental and sustainability matters, including the City of St. John’s energy intensity, greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation, resilience, energy poverty, and environment. Additionally, the Panel is responsible for assisting in the progress of environmental and sustainability matters in the City of St. John’s. Three representatives with expertise in any of the following area are required:
- Socio-cultural & Energy Poverty – To support the City in creating inclusive climate action projects and programs and continue to improve quality of life. Your expertise will support the City in understanding the impacts of climate change on the social determinants of health of our community, bring a poverty reduction lens to proposed climate action, as well as information on the role of sustainable development in improving our living conditions and quality of life.
- Sustainable Buildings – to support the City in informing approaches to improve the efficiency of building’s resource use (energy, water, and materials). Your expertise will support the City in its efforts to improve building’s performance thru retrofits and/or policies in its path to an adapted net-zero future.
- Urban Planning – to support the City in progressing integrated and sustainable urban development. Your expertise will support the City in its efforts to integrate sustainability considerations into development review, projects, and policies.
Sought after expertise in these areas may include, but will not be limited to:
- Poverty Reduction Strategies
- Sociologist
- Health Scientist
- Architect
- Engineer (e.g., civil, mechanical)
- Contractor
- Ecologist
- Freshwater Biologist
- Climatologist
- Planner, MCIP
- Landscape Architect
- Arborist
- Other – Demonstrated Relevant Experience
