The City of St. John’s is hosting a parade and celebration for our 2022 Stanley Cup champion, Alex Newhook of the Colorado Avalanche, on Monday, Aug. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The City has partnered with the Community Food Sharing Association to collect food items. Please bring non-perishable food items to the parade to be placed in the Community Food Sharing van that will travel along the route and will be parked on Adelaide Street after the event. There also will be a collection bin near the entrance of George Street where the public can drop off donations.
The Stanley Cup parade, featuring the Music Collection Drumline, will depart at Bannerman Road at 2 p.m. and travel down the following streets: Military Road, Ordnance Street, Duckworth Street, Prescott Street, and Water Street. The Bannerman Park Outdoor Swimming Pool will be open during the parade, but the public can only access the pool by walking.
The parade will travel through the Downtown Pedestrian Mall (east to west) until it reaches George Street, where Alex will take the stage with the Stanley Cup. Alex will be joined by Mayor Danny Breen, and the Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Metrobus Park N’ Ride and GoBus
Metrobus will operate on a load and go schedule between 12:30 and 2 p.m. from a temporary bus stop at the north end of The Village Shopping Centre parking lot, entrance off of Hamlyn Road. The bus will drop off in front of the St. John’s Convention Centre (SJCC), 50 New Gower Street.
Services from SJCC back to Village Mall will start immediately at the end of the event. A low-floor accessible bus will be available during the Park N’ Ride. GoBus stops are located in various areas downtown, GoBus customers may reserve their ride by contacting GoBus directly.
Accessibility and Inclusion
Accessible parking options are available throughout downtown, near the pedestrian mall, and in several parking garages as outlined on the Parking and Transportation map for the Pedestrian Mall.
During the parade, an accessible viewing area will be located at 240 Water Street, in front of the Credit Union. During the event on George Street, the accessible viewing area will be on Duckworth Street, overlooking the George Street Plaza. Viewing areas are first come, first serve.
In partnership with the Autism Society, a sensory friendly zone with reduced sounds will be located along the parade route on Duckworth Street, in front of The Sir Humphrey Gilbert Building, from Cochrane Street to King’s Road.
