Do you know someone who makes a difference in our city? The nomination period for the St. John’s Applause Awards is now open.
The civic awards program recognizes individuals, groups and organizations whose outstanding contributions and achievements help make our city a great place to live, learn, work, play and visit.
“There are so many people doing extraordinary things to make St. John’s a great City,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “We encourage citizens to look to their neighbours, friends, community leaders, and local organizations who are deserving of recognition.”
Nominations are open for over a dozen awards in seven major award categories. To submit a nomination, please complete the nomination forms for each award category at StJohns.ca/Applause by February 23, 2023.
Athlete of the Year: New this year, the City is inviting members of the public to nominate individuals for the male and female Athletes of the Year and Team of the Year. Previously, nominations came from community partners and the selection committee.
Climate Change Leadership Award: The City is proud to add a new sustainability category for 2023. This award recognizes individuals and organizations demonstration exemplary leadership in climate change action.
Heritage Awards: Various awards to recognize commercial and residential property owners of Heritage buildings or buildings in a Heritage Area for their work in rehabilitating, restoring, and celebrating our rich built heritage.
Volunteer Awards: Recognizes residents and groups who have volunteered their time to build a healthy city. Awards are presented in Youth, Community Group and Adult/Senior categories.
Tourism Awards: The City of St. John's honours the very best in the tourism industry every year through a variety of award categories.
Youth of The Year Awards: Open to residents 12 to 18 years old who - through their volunteering, extracurricular activities and community involvement - have helped make St. John’s a better place to live. Nominations are accepted for Junior and Senior Youth of The Year.
Senior of The Year Award: Recognizes a senior 60 years or older who has made significant volunteer contributions to the city by improving the quality of life for citizens through community involvement.
