Delay in Opening of New H.G.R. Mews Community Centre

The City of St. John’s has experienced a set-back at the new H.G.R. Mews Community Centre, which will result in a further delay for the opening of the facility which was anticipated to take place early in 2025. 

While construction of the facility is complete, a piece of mechanical equipment that heats and cools the building is not functioning properly. 

The issue must be resolved before the City can accept the building from the contractor and open it to the public. 

The City is working with its consultants and contractor to determine solutions to the problem and expects to have more clarity on the timeline for the resolution of this issue in the coming weeks. An update will be provided once more information is available. In the interim, recreation programs will continue at the current H.G.R. Mews Community Centre.
