Construction to build a recreational pump track on the grounds of Quidi Vidi Park will start this week and is anticipated to be complete in October. The location of the pump track is in the green space near the existing dog park on The Boulevard.
The construction zone will be fenced off with no public access to the area during this period. Heavy equipment will require occasional access to The Boulevard. Please use caution in the area and obey all posted signage. Public access will be maintained to the dog park, walking trail and parking area. A map of the construction area is available here.
The project was first announced last year as a community-led initiative with the Avalon Mountain Bike Association. An image of the pump track design is available here.
A pump track is a progressive circuit where riders use an up and down pumping motion to propel the bike forward instead of pedaling. It provides recreation opportunities and is used to develop biking and riding skills for all ages and abilities. It is suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards and wheelchairs.
Further details on the official opening of the new pump track will be provided after construction is complete. To report issues, residents can contact Access St. John’s by calling 311 or 754-CITY (2489) or by email at access@stjohns.ca.
