On Saturday, January 11, 2025, Ward 3 Councillor Greg Noseworthy was joined by Deputy Mayor O'Leary, At-Large Councillor Sandy Hickman, Ward 4 Councillor Tom Davis and community members for a clean-up in the George’s Pond area. At the cleanup, Councillor Noseworthy announced that the City of St. John's will be installing cameras in the coming weeks in the area to address concerns of littering and illegal dumping.
"I'm pleased to announce the upcoming installation of cameras in the George's Pond area to catch and deter would be polluters, said Councillor Noseworthy. "Having used the trails for biking and hiking throughout my life, I've seen the real impacts that illegal dumping has had on the area over the years. I'm so happy to work with our community to clean up the area, and even more pleased that we will be installing these cameras to address this matter.”
Illegal dumping is the disposal of unwanted waste in unauthorized areas. It is a serious and unnecessary problem that can pollute the land and water and negatively impact wildlife. Residents can report suspicious activity involving the improper disposal of waste, in particular, crimes in progress as well as details on illegal dump site locations to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222 -TIPS (8477) , or submitting a tip through the Crime Stoppers
Website.
“As Ward 3 Councillor, and a lifelong community member, I take the environment very seriously. While illegal dumping and pollution will no doubt continue to be an issue, I am confident that this will serve as a significant means to address this problem in this part of our community. While there is more work to be done, I want to thank my fellow Councillors and the staff at the City for their hard work on this issue. Most importantly, I want to also thank the residents of Ward 3 and St. John's continue to advocate for a cleaner community,” added Councillor Noseworthy.
