The City of St. John’s is pleased to announce it has a collective agreement with its CUPE Local 569 employees. The agreement was ratified by employees late Monday evening, August 1, 2022.
The agreement is a four-year deal consisting of the following wage increases:
- July 1, 2022 - 2.5%
- July 1, 2023 - 2.75%
- July 1, 2024 - 2.25%
- July 1, 2025 - 3.5%
Employees will also receive a $1000 signing bonus.
“We are pleased to have a new contract with our valued outside workers that addresses cost of living increases and avoids any labour disruptions,” said Councillor Ron Ellsworth, lead for Finance. “We now turn our attention to negotiating with CUPE Local 1289 and NAPE Local 7808.”
This is the first general increase to wages for City employees since 2018; in the last negotiated contract, employees agreed to a four-year contract with 0% in wages.
CUPE Local 569 includes those who work in humane services, parks, property management, road maintenance and snow clearing, traffic, and water and wastewater. There are approximately 400 employees in this bargaining unit. CUPE 1289 and NAPE 7808 include office workers and staff in recreation, waste collection and water treatment.
