The Mute Swan, an introduced and invasive species in Canada, is protected under the federal Migratory Birds Convention Act. Currently, the City has one Mute Swan, which resides at Mundy Pond. Over the years, swans have also been present at both Bowring Park and Mundy Pond Park. However, as the previous swans have passed, they have not been replaced due to the ongoing risk of avian influenza.
At present, the swan at Mundy Pond is over 15 years old, and is cared for by the Public Works staff, with support from Humane Services.
