Construction Planned for Waterford River Bridge at Blackhead Road

Repairs are planned to rehabilitate the Waterford River Bridge at Blackhead Road, with construction scheduled to begin on Mon. May 8 and be completed by the end of August.

The bridge will remain open to traffic during construction with lane reductions required. Work will take place from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., slowdowns and traffic disruptions are expected.

2025 Jeux du Canada Games Track, Field, Turf and Centre of Excellence Facility

Today, Mayor Danny Breen was joined by representatives from Memorial University, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, and the 2025 Canada Games Host Society to announce that the Design Build Contract for construction of a new track and field, artificial soccer turf, and Centre for Excellence for the 2025 Canada Summer Games, has been awarded to Lindsay Construction.

Arup Bridge Closed to Pedestrians May 1, 2023

The rehabilitation project for the Arup cantilever pedestrian bridge, located in Bowring Park, begins May 1, 2023.

Access to the pedestrian bridge, including a portion of the Waterford River Walk, will be closed until July 28, 2023; see map for alternative route along Southbrook Trail.

Public Transit Infrastructure Investments Announced for St. John’s

Today, Mayor Danny Breen was joined by Joanne Thompson, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, and the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change to announce a joint investment of more than $27.8 million to enhance St. John’s public transit infrastructure.

Water Street Construction Update April 28

The final phase of the Water Street infrastructure improvement project that began on March 27 is progressing on schedule, with the underground infrastructure installation nearing completion at the Waldegrave Street intersection, and underground work scheduled to begin next week at the intersection of Prescott Street and Job’s Cove.
