On Wednesday, Feb. 8, Council considered a series of recommendations from staff regarding the annual Downtown Pedestrian Mall event.
As explained in a post on February 6, since closing the Downtown Pedestrian Mall in 2022, staff have been evaluating feedback and considering ways to address key concerns. Council discussed seven recommendations at the bi-weekly Committee of the Whole meeting:

Today, City Council met with representatives of Metrobus to discuss the issue of the bus shelter outside The Gathering Place. Council and Metrobus agree this bus shelter must stay in place for the time being.
There are ongoing safety and service issues associated with this shelter that must be addressed. City staff, together with representatives of the St. John’s Transportation Commission, will be reaching out to The Gathering Place to develop a plan for the management of this bus shelter.

Preparing for this summer’s Downtown Pedestrian Mall: focusing on safety, accessibility and consistency.
