Our City, Our Future, the City’s 10-year strategic plan, enters its fifth year in 2023. To date, 114 initiatives have been completed; 24 initiatives were completed in 2022. 53 initiatives are in various states of implementation for 2023.

If you own a house or commercial property in a Heritage Area, or if you own a designated Heritage Building, you can apply for maintenance or conservation funding until May 1.
The City’s Heritage Financial Incentives Program aims to conserve heritage resources by assisting property owners with grant funding available each year. Since the incentive program began in 2016, over $310,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 118 successful applicants.

Construction for the next phase of the Water Street infrastructure project, including excavation and underground work at the intersections of Prescott Street/Job’s Cove, and Waldegrave Street, starts during the first week of April and is anticipated to be complete before July 1.
During construction, traffic will be impacted around both intersections, and access points to and from Water Street will be limited at times. Detours and flag persons will be in place.

Construction of a new facility to replace the aging H.G.R. Mews Community Centre is approximately 60% complete and is anticipated to open to the public in late spring 2024.
When construction began, the target for opening to the public was fall 2023, but due to issues around the availability and delivery of steel, the target opening date has been adjusted to late spring 2024.
