Each summer since 2014, the City of St. John’s hires a litter crew to clean the streets and areas of the city where litter tends to concentrate.
The 2023 crew are 75% through their contract and in that time have used 238 clear garbage bags to pick up more than two tonnes of litter from roadsides in St. John’s. This is approximately 20kg (44lbs) of litter picked up every day by each crew member!

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart Playground will be opening at Noon, Thursday, July 27th. The public are reminded that there is a major construction project ongoing in the immediate area and to be extra careful going and coming from the playground. Parking is available next to the ballpark with accessible parking spaces available immediately next to the playground. Parking is not permitted in the roadway and vehicles in violation will be ticketed and/or towed.

Motorists are advised that a portion of Airport Heights Drive in the vicinity of Rhodora Street intersection will see construction work off the side of the street, in order to facilitate repair works at the Virginia River culvert crossing Airport Heights Drive. Motorists are advised there will be lane reductions/closures in place on Elizabeth Avenue at Churchill Square to facilitate ongoing works associated with the CIPP Watermain Lining project.
Signage will be in place and flag persons will be on site. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Motorists will experience slow-downs and delays and are encouraged to use an alternate route, if possible.
