Starting May 6, construction crews will resume street rehabilitation and the installation of a shared-use path on Elizabeth Ave. Upgrades from Bonaventure Avenue to Westerland Road were mostly completed in 2023 with the remaining works in this street section to be completed in early Summer 2024.
Construction for 2024 will include the section from Westerland Road to Freshwater Road.

The City of St. John’s together with the St. John’s Port Authority and industry partners, look forward to an exciting and busy 2024 cruise season.
The Phoenix Reisen Amera is the first ship scheduled to arrive in St. John’s on May 5, with approximately 900 passengers. In total, there are 40 scheduled visits from 18 cruise lines scheduled to arrive between the months of May and October, with more than 54,000 passengers expected to visit the City of St. John’s.

Motorists are advised that Springdale Street, between Water Street & George Street West, will be closed on Friday, May 3 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate the ongoing construction of the JAG Hotel. A traffic detour will be in place.

The City is considering a text amendment to the St. John’s Development Regulations, that will enable a greater variety of housing types in residential zones. The proposed text amendment will support the City's action plan to stimulate housing growth, which is supported by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Accelerator Fund.

The City of St. John’s is experiencing some technical difficulties with the RecConnect software used for recreation program registration. We are investigating the issue, which appears to be impacting municipalities across the country. Once this issue is resolved, we will provide an update.
