The City has opened the Residential Re-Leaf program, where St. John's residents can apply for a $200 voucher towards the purchase of a tree to plant on their property. There are 150 vouchers available.
Applications can be submitted directly by filling out an online form. The City continues to complete sewer cleaning and video inspections on Water Street from Queen Street to Prescott Street. In order to facilitate work in the remaining sections, Water Street from Clift’s-Baird’s Cove to Prescott Street will be closed to traffic on Monday, May 13 until 4 p.m. Traffic will be detoured to Harbour Drive, however local access and parking will be available via the Clift’s-Baird’s Cove intersection.

Street Rehab – May 13 to 18
Contractors may be working on the following streets from May 13 to 18 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas:

The City is considering a text and map amendment to the Envision St. John’s Development Regulations regarding wetlands. In response to City Council adopting the Wetlands Study Phase 2A on November 28, 2023, changes to Section 4.10 Waterways, Wetlands, Ponds or Lakes and Appendix C, Map 4 of the St. John’s Development Regulations are proposed.

The City of St. John’s and First Voice Urban Indigenous Coalition have formed a Joint Coordinating Committee on Indigenous Rights.
The committee will develop recommendations for implementing the City of St. John’s commitments outlined in Council’s 2020 Declaration in Support of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Reporting directly to Council and to the First Voice Partnership Table, the committee will strengthen collaboration to advance the urban Indigenous coalition’s 2023 Community Action Plan
