Street Rehab - September 30 to October 5

Contractors may be working on the following streets from September 30 to October 5 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas:

Canada Drive
Cavendish Square
Columbus Drive (near Thorburn Road intersection)
Conran Street

National Truth and Reconciliation Day 2024

The City will observe National Truth and Reconciliation Day on Monday, September 30, to honour survivors, their families and Indigenous communities, and to raise awareness about the legacy of residential schools in Canada.
Please note the following:
- Most City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, September 30.
- Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected on Monday.

Cruise Ships arrive September 27 and September 28

The Seabourn Venture with 264 passengers is scheduled to arrive in the Port of St. John’s at 7 a.m. on Friday, September 27, and depart at 5 p.m. The Aurora with 1950 passengers is scheduled to arrive in the Port of St. John’s at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, and depart on Sunday, September 29 at 2 p.m.

City Accepting Submissions to Art Procurement Program

The City of St. John’s is now accepting submissions to the Art Procurement Program. Individual visual artists and commercial galleries are invited to submit their artwork for an opportunity to be purchased and included in the City’s Civic Art Collection.
The Civic Art Collection is displayed in City Hall and other municipal buildings, enhancing public spaces and contributing to the city’s cultural landscape.

11:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26 to 7:00 a.m. Friday, September 27
Overnight work on Elizabeth Avenue (between Anderson Avenue and Freshwater Road) will take place from 11:00 p.m. September 26 to 7:00 a.m. September 27. This will include water shut offs and is required to facilitate watermain work and its associated infrastructure. Those impacted by the water shut off have already been notified.

Visitor Information Centre Hours Update

Effective Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the City of St. John’s Visitor Information Centre located at 348 Water Street will be adjusting their hours of operation, as follows:
- Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Closed on weekends and statutory holidays, except on Monday, October 14 (Thanksgiving holiday) when the Spirit of Adventure cruise ship is in port.

(The HUB) at 21 Merrymeeting Road to convert office space into six (6) residential bedsitting rooms with a common area and shared bathroom, laundry, and kitchen facilities.
