Cruise Ship Volendam arrives September 6

The Volendam with 1839 passengers is scheduled to arrive in the Port of St. John’s at 12 p.m. on Friday, September 6, and depart at 10 p.m.

Please note that ship arrivals and departures are subject to various conditions, including weather and ships’ schedules. For the most up-to-date information on cruise ships coming to the City of St. John’s call the Cruise Information Line.

A Discretionary Use application has been submitted for 415 Fowlers Road.

Description

An application has been submitted for Heavy Equipment Storage and Vehicle Storage Yard. The proposed Use includes a new storage building with an area of approximately 335m2, along with two new outdoor, open storage areas in the rear yard and the existing Accessory Building.

Traffic Advisory - Elizabeth Avenue

Please be advised of a change in location of a road closure impacting Elizabeth Avenue. Elizabeth Ave from Paton Street to Whiteway Street has reopened to traffic, while the road remains closed from Paton Street to Freshwater Road. A detour will be in place, redirecting traffic through Howlett Avenue and Anderson Avenue. Flag persons will be on site to direct traffic. This detour is expected to remain until November 2024.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the construction period....

With schools reopening the first week of September, the City of St. John’s urges everyone to stay safe in school zones.

For drivers, it's essential to adhere to reduced speed limits, pay attention to all posted signs, exercise extra caution, and never pass school buses when their lights are flashing. Stay alert for crossing guards and children, especially near crosswalks. These measures are in place to protect children as they arrive and leave school zones.

Street Rehab - September 3 to 7

Contractors may be working on the following streets from September 3 to 7 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. The City has received an application to rezone 231 Main Road from the Residential 1 (R1) Zone to the Residential 3 (R3) Zone to accommodate four (4) residential units in the form of Townhouses. Townhouses are a permitted use in the R3 Zone. A Municipal Plan amendment is not required.
