Motorists are advised that the traffic lights will be shut down starting at 9:00 a.m. to facilitate the ongoing work in this area. Flag persons will be on site directing traffic. Motorists should anticipate delays and use alternate routes where possible. Power will be restored by end of the day.

Historical Cantilever Bridge in Bowring Park Reopens to Public Following Rehabilitation

The City of St. John’s is pleased to announce the reopening of the Bowring Park Cantilever Bridge, which was closed in May for repair and maintenance work to rehabilitate the bridge.

The Cantilever Bridge is a significant Heritage structure in St. John’s which received Provincial and Municipal Heritage Designation in 2020 due to its age, architectural and environmental values.

Due to the Remembrance Day holiday on Saturday, November 11, all recreation facilities, community centres, and the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility will be closed.

Please note:

Most City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, November 13.
All recreation facilities will be open on Monday, November 13.
Waste and recycling will be collected on Monday, November 13.

Motorists are advised that Linegar Avenue (from St. John Bosco School to the Shea Heights Community Centre) will be closed to facilitate the Remembrance Day Parade.

National Child Day: Free Events November 20-26

November 20 is National Child Day in Canada, a day to celebrate the rights of children everywhere to live happy, healthy lives, and to ensure they reach their full potential. To celebrate, the City of St. John’s is offering a week of free events and programs, November 20 to 26, at various community centres. Events include Youth Drop-In, Everyone Welcome Swim and Active Playgroup.

Lane Reduction - Water Street (vicinity of the National War Memorial)

Motorists are advised that Water Street (in the vicinity of the National War Memorial) will be reduced to one lane to facilitate the sewer replacement work adjacent to the National War Memorial. Signage will be in place and flag persons will be on site. Motorists may experience delays and are encouraged to use an alternate route, if possible.
