Please be advised the swimming pool, steam and sauna at the HGR Mews Community Centre will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 20 for the day due to maintenance. The remainder of the building is open. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Today, City Council voted to change several intersections from push button pedestrian crossing (pedestrian actuation mode) to automated pedestrian crossing (pedestrian recall). Some of these changes will be permanent, while others will only be changed during the winter months.

Shared Use Path to be Constructed on Canada Drive

Today, City Council voted in favour of moving forward with design and construction of a shared-use path on the south side of Canada Drive. The design for the project will be tendered in early 2023, with construction to be announced later, once funding is in place.
Public engagement for this project took place in spring 2022 where two options were proposed, and input was gathered from the public and community stakeholders.

Water Street Construction Project 2023: Virtual Information Sessions

The City is planning for the next phase of the Water Street infrastructure project, set to start in spring 2023. The work includes excavation and underground work at the intersections of Water Street at Prescott Street/Job’s Cove, and Waldegrave Street.
Property owners, business owners, employees and people who live in the area are encouraged to attend a virtual information session to learn about the next phase of work prior to the construction season.

Scheduled Blast at Robin Hood Bay: December 18

The City of St. John’s advises the public that a scheduled blast will occur at Robin Hood Bay on Sunday, Dec. 18 between 2 and 3 p.m.
The blast is happening on the east end of the landfill site in the quarry area. The purpose of the blast is for rock production as part of a recent contract awarded to Capital Ready-Mix.
Marshalls will be stationed along the East Coast Trail to inform hikers who may be in the area at the time.
