Contractors may be working on the following streets from August 29 to September 2 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas:

Motorists are advised that Bay Bulls Road (Griffin’s Lane to Connolly’s Lane) and the intersection of Walsh’s Lane will be closed to traffic to facilitate construction works associated with the Goulds Servicing (Phase 2) Sanitary Trunk Sewer project: Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 7 a.m. to Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.
Traffic will NOT be permitted through the construction zone; however, local traffic will have access at both ends of the site.

Motorists are advised that Springdale Street, between Water Street and George Street West, will be closed September 2 to 30 to facilitate the ongoing construction of the JAG Hotel. A traffic detour will be in place.

As part of the Street Rehabilitation program, work on various sections of Southlands Boulevard has been ongoing throughout the summer and will continue to late fall 2022.

Due to the Labour Day holiday on Mon. Sept. 5 all City offices and facilities will be closed. The weekly Council meeting will take place on Tues. Sept. 6 at 3 p.m.

Each summer since 2014, the City of St. John’s hires a litter crew that are mandated to clean the most travelled streets of the city and areas where litter concentrates.
6 Tonnes of LitterOver 12 weeks, the 2022 summer litter crew used 575 clear garbage bags to pick up nearly 6 tonnes of litter from roadsides in St. John’s – with a four-person litter crew that is more than 55 pounds of litter picked up every day by each individual crew member!

As kids return to school next week, motorists are reminded to reduce their speed to a maximum of 30 km/hr when driving through school zones in St. Johns.
The following streets are identified as school zones, and the speed limit of 30 km/hr will be in effect on these streets starting on Tuesday, September 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days:
