The St. John’s Regional Fire Department wishes to advise all citizens that due to the Provincial Fire Hazard Rating being low, the fire ban, dated July 24, 2024, within the Region which includes the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl, and Town of Paradise is lifted effective immediately. Open fires will be permitted, however, please check with your local municipality to confirm if a burning permit is required from this Department. Motorists are advised that Airport Road, from Major’s Path to Chinook Lane, will be closed from July 30 to August 2. The road will reopen at 6:00 p.m. on August 2. Access will be maintained for local traffic. Signage is in place and flag persons are on site.

In early August, construction crews will begin work to upgrade storm sewer infrastructure on University Avenue. Upgrades are expected to be completed by October 2024.
The impacted area extends from approximately 118 University Avenue to the north side of Prince Philip Drive. The City of St. John’s is pleased to announce the installation of new portable toilets for visitors of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall. Two portable accessible toilets and a handwashing station will be available during the Downtown Pedestrian Malls hours of operation (noon to 10 p.m. daily.) on the corner of Harbour Drive and Ayres Cove.
