Waste Reduction Fair

Join the City of St. John's and local businesses and community groups that have a focus on waste reduction, at the Botanical Garden from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 for a waste reduction fair.

There will be information booths from each organization so you can learn more ways to reduce the amount of waste you produce at home, work or in you classroom. 

Information booths include:

  • City of St. John's, composting & recycling information
  • MUN Botanical Garden
  • St. John's Tool Library
  • Boomerang Bags - St. John's
  • Guide to the Good
  • Product Care ReGeneration paint recycling display
  • Electronic Products Recycling Association NL
  • Clean St. John's litter timeline
  • Island Compost, will collect compost from residents

Backyard Compost Information Session
As part of the Waste Reduction Fair we are holding a free compost information session, also at the MUN Botanical Garden, from 10:30-11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. Learn how easy it is to compost in your backyard and get what gardeners call ‘black gold’. Bins can be purchased after you attend an information session. Standard compost bins are $40 while tumbler bins are $55, including HST. Payment is by cash only and receipts are issued.

During Waste Reduction Week in Canada, Oct. 16 to 22, tag a selfie showing how you reduce waste with #wrwstjohns for a chance to win a waste reduction prize pack. 

Prizes include:

  • $50 gift card that can be used at RON or Home Hardware
  • Tumbler compost bin
  • Two recycling bins
  • A years supply of blue recycling bags
  • A bag of leaf compost from the MUN Botanical Garden
