Sneak Peek inside Community Market

There’s a lot more to the new Community Market than you might realize!

Not only will the space be the new home of the St. John’s Farmers’ Market Cooperative, it will also include space for meetings and gatherings, opportunities for outdoor vendors, all in the center of the city.

Recently, Councillor Tom Hann toured the empty space with members of the Farmers' Market Board; Councillor Hann has been involved in this project from the start and is excited about seeing it come to life in the coming months.

Designs are being finalized and a tender for construction has been called which means that shovels should be in the ground mid-June at the former site of the Metrobus Depot on Freshwater Road.

An information session for neighbours will be held May 18, and the City will post progress updates as construction begins.

The St. John's Community Market project is supported by the City of St. John's, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the St. John's Farmers' Market Cooperative, the Aviva Community Fund, and the VOCM Cares Foundation.
