Holiday Recycling & Schedule

The holiday season brings items into our households that we don’t normally have around. Many of these items can be recycled in blue bags and some cannot. Learn if what you have is recyclable at Put Waste In Its Place.
Holiday items to put in your curbside recycling blue bags:
- eggnog containers
- whipping cream containers
- orange juice containers
- cranberry sauce and Fussell’s cream tins
- syrup bottles (plastic only)
- cookie and chocolate tins
- liquor bottles (plastic only)
- gift boxes
- cardboard boxes
Items that cannot be recycled at the curb
- wrapping paper
- gift bags (These can be reused)
- greeting cards
- ribbon
- styrofoam
- glass

There is no waste collection on Friday, Dec. 25, Monday, Dec. 28 or Friday, Jan. 1.
To accommodate extra garbage during the holiday season, the City of St. John’s will allow residents to include two extra bags in their regular collection, Jan. 4 - 8. Please place the bags alongside the automated cart on your collection day by 8 a.m.

Christmas Tree Drop Off
Only natural, undecorated trees will be accepted – no artificial trees, decorations, tinsel or other man-made objects. Please do not bundle or tie the tree.

Tuesday, Dec. 29 to Sunday, Jan. 10
excluding December 31 and January 1 when the parking lot will be closed due to the New Years firework display.

All the trees collected are turned into mulch chips which are used in horticultural projects in the City’s green spaces.
