Election 2021: Check the Voters List

The upcoming municipal election is on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021.

If you are a Canadian citizen, over the age of 18 and a resident of St. John's as of August 29, 2021, you should check the voters list to ensure you are registered to vote and verify your mailing address to ensure you receive a vote by mail kit. If you are not on the list or the information is not accurate, follow the instructions to request a change.

You can also call Access St. John’s at 311 or 754‐CITY (2489) or drop into the Access Centre, first floor City Hall, 10 New Gower Street, to register.

You may not be included on the voters list if you recently:

  • moved within the City
  • moved to the City
  • turned 18
  • changed your name 

Since the voter registration portal opened on July 19, we have recived some questions about the voters list. 

I voted in the last Election. Why am I not on the Voters List?
To prepare for an election, the City receives the voters list from the Permanent List of Electors provided by Elections NL via an information sharing agreement.  City staff then cleanse the data based on property sales or changes in ownership to avoid sending invalid voter kits to properties in which a voter may no longer live.

The City encourages everyone to check the voters list to ensure they are listed. There are a few steps you can take to ensure you are registered to receive your vote by mail kit.

  1. Visit the Voter Registration Portal and follow the instructions: https://voterregistration.stjohns.ca/
  2. Call 311 or visit Access St. John’s front counter
  3. Email election@stjohns.ca

City staff are happy to assist and address your voter registration questions to ensure you receive your vote by mail kits in September.
 
I am entering my street name in the Voter Registration Portal, but it does not appear in the list. Why?
When entering your information, you must enter your civic address which is your civic number and your street name. If you and your address does not appear, please follow the prompts after entering your complete civic number and street name. Entering a street name alone will not populate the portal correctly.
