City Implements Winter Parking Ban Immediately

Car in Snow

December 15, 2016
Due to the number and intensity of winter storms occurring early this year, the City of St. John’s is required to implement the on-street parking ban outside the downtown as of 12:30 a.m., Friday, December 16.
Typically, the City implements the ban in early January and had previously announced the ban date for this year as January 4, 2017. However, heavy snow falls this week, compounded by more forecasted weather, requires an early implementation.
While in effect, on-street parking is prohibited between 12:30 and 7:30 a.m. daily. Tickets will be issued continuously while the ban is in effect, regardless of snow or street conditions. The fine for this violation is $55.
The ban is lifted when conditions are favourable which typically occurs in early April, pending weather conditions.
