The Social And Political Determinants Of Oral Health And Oral Health Care: From The Problem Space To The Solution Space

In Canada, poor oral health and access to oral health care are likely more determined by social and living conditions than individual behaviors. This presentation will discuss the social and political determinants of oral health and review the evidence of what may help improve the population's oral health and access to oral health care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the social and political determinants of oral health
  • Describe a health equity approach to improving population oral health and access to oral health care
  • Review the dominant approaches taken by governments and the oral health care professions to improve population oral health and access to oral healthcare
