Downtown Parking Restrictions in Winter

To safely and effectively clear snow from streets the City of St. John’s restricts parking on streets by area, time of day, and/or dependent on operational requirements. Violating winter parking restrictions can result in a ticket being issued or the vehicle being towed.

If you live or park in the Downtown area the primary winter parking restrictions to be aware of are:

Downtown Snow Removal, scheduled as required
NEW time
To better serve downtown residents and businesses, scheduled snow removals in the designated Downtown area now takes place from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., requiring vehicles to be removed from scheduled streets during this time.
 
To find out if a Downtown street is scheduled for snow removal:

 
Business District, 4 to 6 a.m. daily
On-street parking in the Business District is restricted throughout the winter to allow for early morning snow clearing.

While the ban is in place, vehicles are not allowed to park in the early morning between 4 and 6 a.m., regardless of street or snow conditions, on:

  • Water Street, from Waldegrave Street to Prescott Street 
  • Duckworth Street, from New Gower Street to Cochrane Street
