In October more than 5000 students from all public elementary schools in St. John’s laced up their sneakers to participate in International Walk or Wheel to School Month.

This is the 20th year for this event in St. John’s. Despite the challenges faced while navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic all public elementary schools in St. John's participated in this initiative, ultimately making this year the most successful yet!

iWALK gives children, families, schools teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking and wheeling. By walking and wheeling to and from school, students can experience firsthand how easy it is to incorporate regular physical activity into their daily lives.

The 17 participating elementary schools in St. John’s held walks and classroom games and activities so all students had a chance to participate. All participating schools were entered in a random draw, and we’re pleased to announce St. Matthew’s School has won the $500 school participation prize.
